Ski Classics has added two races on the historic route between Oxberg and Mora in Sweden to Season XVIII of its World Championship. The Oxberg–Mora Sprint Women, also known as Tjejvasan, is set for Saturday, February 27, 2027. The Oxberg–Mora Sprint Men follows on the same route on Sunday, February 28.

Tjejvasan steps up

Tjejvasan was first held in 1988. The 30km all-female race has grown into the world's biggest ski race for women only. It has been part of the Ski Classics Challengers series since 2019 and is now moving up to the World Championship. ProXCskiing called the move a long-awaited step up and a milestone that reflects both the race's prestige and the growing prominence of women's long-distance skiing.

The women's race is Event 10 of Season XVIII and will be on the World Championship calendar for the first time. The race is open to recreational skiers. Johanna Hagström won the last edition in 01:26:11.0.

A new race for the men

The following day, Event 11 is a brand-new men's race on the same route from Oxberg to Mora. For the men's race, Langd.se says details on registration will be announced soon.

Both races use the same format: a mass start on a short, flat course, with Champion and Sprint Competition points awarded at the finish line. Each is a Pro Event worth 300 points. According to ProXCskiing, the course's highest point is 259 metres above sea level.

What the organisers say

“We’re really excited to add two more Ski Classics events to the Vasaloppet Arena. Bringing the classic Tjejvasan into the series while introducing a completely new 30-kilometre race for the elite men gives us a great combination of tradition and innovation. It will be exciting to see some of the world’s best long-distance skiers competing in these races,” said Tommy Höglund, Chief of Competition Vasaloppet Pro race 30 (Oxberg-Mora Sprint Men).
“Tjejvasan has deserved a place in our World Championship for a long time; it’s the biggest women’s-only ski race in the world, and it was about time we gave it that recognition. Now we’re going a step further: putting the men on that exact same route the very next day, competing for the same points under the same conditions. Two days, one iconic stretch between Oxberg and Mora, and a weekend that promises non-stop action from start to finish,” said Lukas Bauer, Ski Classics Race Director.

Season opens in Austria

Season XVIII starts in Austria before it gets to Sweden. Langd.se lists the Bad Gastein Prolog over 1km on December 11, 2026 as Event 1. The 30km Sportgastein Kriterium follows on December 13, then the 7km Bad Gastein ITT on December 19, 2026.
