Protesters Demand IOC Cut Ties with ICE at Milano-Cortina 2026

CBC Sports senior contributor @_shireenahmed_ gives an update on the anti-ICE protests at #MilanoCortina2026.
## Protesters Demand Accountability for Migrant Deaths
The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina have been marred by ongoing protests against the involvement of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Demonstrators have taken to the streets, calling for the IOC to sever ties with ICE and hold the organization accountable for the deaths of migrants in its custody.
"These protests are a critical reminder that the Olympics cannot be divorced from global issues of human rights and justice," said Ahmed. "The IOC has a responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all athletes and spectators, and that includes taking a strong stance against human rights abuses."
The protests have gained momentum in recent weeks, with thousands of activists joining the cause. Many are demanding that the IOC strip ICE of its contract to provide security and immigration services at the games. There are also calls for the IOC to donate a portion of its revenues to organizations supporting migrant communities.
"The athletes deserve to compete in an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation," Ahmed added. "The IOC must listen to the voices of the protesters and take concrete action to address their concerns."
