Ski Classics has presented Vasaloppet as the third Grand Classics event of Season XVIII. The 90-kilometre race from Sälen to Mora takes place on Sunday, 7 March 2027, and, as Langrenn.com and Langd.se report, it is the third of four Grand Classics events this season.
Key facts
Vasaloppet is event number 12 on the 2026/27 calendar. Women and men both start at 08:00 CET.
- Points: Pro Event, 500 points, Grand Classics
- Sprints: Smågan and Evertsberg
- Winners of the previous edition: Emilie Fleten in 4:24:26.3 and Oskar Kardin in 4:14:45.5
It is the oldest, longest and most prestigious race on the Ski Classics calendar. First held in 1922, it was inspired by Gustav Vasa's flight in 1520.
Bauer stresses team tactics
Lukas Bauer, Race Director of Ski Classics, said Vasaloppet is the longest course of the whole season and one of the few events that have been part of Ski Classics since the start. What sets it apart, he explained, is surviving the distance while pacing correctly through the sprint points at Smågan and Evertsberg and the climb points at Högsta Punkten before even reaching Mora. According to Bauer, team tactics play a major role in who wins over 90 kilometres. Skiing for a teammate or controlling the pace as a group can matter as much as individual strength.
Vasaloppet CEO Johan Eriksson said the organisation has kept Sweden moving for more than 100 years and intends to keep doing so. This winter it reached two million finishes in Mora, and he said they look forward to welcoming the next million participants across the finish line.
