French junior ski jumper Nathan Géhin has died in a road accident in the Vosges. The 16-year-old, a member of the club US Ventron, was killed in Ventron overnight from Friday, September 18, into Saturday, September 19. The French Ski Federation (Fédération française de ski, FFS) has confirmed his death.
Car reportedly hit a tree on a mountain road
The crash happened on mountain roads in Ventron. Three other occupants, the driver (a woman) and two passengers, were injured. According to the reports, none of them was still in a life-threatening condition.
Initial information from local media suggests the driver lost control of the car, which ran onto the verge before slamming into a tree. Nathan Géhin was killed instantly in the collision.
Accounts of the investigation differ. Media365 reported that police would now open an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash. The news site InfoRadar, by contrast, wrote that a judicial investigation was already under way and that the gendarmerie is to establish the causes and circumstances. InfoRadar also said no further official information on the circumstances had been released beyond confirmation that the three other occupants were injured.
Federation sends condolences
In a statement, the FFS offered its support to Géhin's family, his loved ones and his club:
