Wyttenbach Leads USA Blue Past Finland 5-1
The United States swept both games on Day Two of the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase in Windsor, Ontario on Monday, keeping both American squads unbeaten heading into the final stretch of the tournament.
USA Blue put Finland away with a composed 5-1 victory. Ethan Wyttenbach, who had three assists in the Day One rout of Sweden, scored twice in this one to put the Americans in command early. Finland's lone answer came from Eetu Orpana late in the second period, but Brooks Rogowski, Jamie Glance, and Carter Sanderson — already the owner of a Day One hat-trick — each scored in the third to seal a convincing result.
Wyttenbach now leads all scorers at the Showcase with five points from two games (two goals, three assists), making him the standout individual performer of the opening round. Sanderson, the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect competing with the Calgary Hitmen, has found the net four times across Days One and Two.
USA White Withstands Sweden's Late Surge, 6-4
The second game of the evening was far more dramatic. USA White blitzed Sweden with three first-period goals — from Carter Amico, Jacob Kvasnicka, and Chase Reid — to take early control. Sweden's Milton Gastrin pulled one back before the buzzer to make it 3-1 at the first intermission.
Sweden continued to press in the middle frame but Sammy Nelson's power-play goal pushed USA White's lead back to three. Early in the third period, Jack Murtagh added another man-advantage goal to make it 5-2, and Mason West stretched the advantage to 6-3. Jakob Ihs Wozniak and Viktor Klingsell found the net late for Sweden, but the 6-4 final was not enough to change the outcome.
Rosters Merge, Three Games Remain
With their round-robin obligations complete, USA Blue and USA White will consolidate into a single American roster for the remaining fixtures. The merged squad faces Finland on Wednesday, July 29 at 3 p.m. ET, then Sweden on July 30 and Canada on August 1.
Canada makes its showcase debut on July 29 against Sweden, with Caleb Malhotra — the third-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks — among the players expected to make an impact at centre. Malhotra has said he wants to "show I have another gear" when facing European competition in showcase games.
Sweden Must Respond, Finland Still in Contention
Sweden is now winless in two games — 1-6 on Day One against USA Blue, 4-6 on Day Two against USA White — and a loss to Canada on July 29 would effectively end its chances of finishing near the top of the standings. Eric Nilson, the 19-year-old center drafted by Anaheim in the second round of 2025 and a recent Michigan State product, remains Sweden's most versatile option through the middle of the ice and is competing hard for a second-line role.
Finland stands at 1-1 after opening the tournament with a 4-1 win over USA White on Day One. The Finns will need to handle a merged American squad fresh off a dominant two-game sweep when the sides meet Wednesday.
