Tallulah Proulx has made history as the first Filipina athlete to compete at a Winter Olympic Games, representing the Philippines in alpine skiing at Milano Cortina 2026.
The 22-year-old from Park City, Utah, made her Olympic debut in the giant slalom and is set to compete in the slalom as well. For Proulx, the moment still feels surreal. "I'm still like, I'm in shock," she said. "I'm like, oh, I kind of wanted to see the slalom or GS, but I can't because I'll be in it. You know, I'll be competing."
Proulx's journey to the Olympics represents a significant milestone for Filipino winter sports. While the Philippines has participated in the Winter Games before, she is the first woman from the nation to compete in the alpine skiing events. Her presence on the slopes carries weight beyond personal achievement—it's about opening doors for future generations.
Breaking New Ground for Filipino Winter Sports
"I just feel so honored to be able to show both sides of myself," Proulx explained. "And also being the first Filipina to be at the Winter Olympics, I feel like I can show a path for other Filipinas and Filipinos to follow in my steps and get into winter sports a little bit."
Her path to representing the Philippines was inspired by another trailblazer. Asa Miller, a Filipino athlete who competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, introduced Proulx to the possibility of competing for the Philippines in Alpine Skiing. That connection proved transformative, leading her to this historic moment in Milano Cortina.
Living the Olympic Dream
Beyond the historic significance, Proulx is embracing every aspect of the Olympic experience. "So happy to be here and being around all these people that I've looked up to my whole life," she said. Among her inspirations is American ski racing legend Mikaela Shiffrin. "Definitely, of course, Michaela Shiffrin. It's incredible how much she's achieved and I really can't wait to hopefully meet her."
The Park City-based skier's message extends beyond the slopes. "I'm really proud to represent the Philippines," Proulx stated. "And I hope that wherever you are, whoever you are, you pursue your dreams and your passions because it brought me to the Olympics. So I'm really grateful to have this opportunity."
As she prepares for the slalom competition, Proulx carries not just her own Olympic dreams but the hopes of aspiring winter sports athletes across the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Her historic participation at Milano Cortina 2026 has already secured her place in Olympic history, regardless of results.
